Ken Waldie uses photographic images to illuminate specific historical periods. In his books, poetry and descriptive text are used alongside the photographs to enhance the feeling of an image by linking it to the human story. The aim is to stimulate the viewer’s experience, and ultimately to facilitate speculation on the past lives of people at particular points in space and time.

He also likes to promote the idea of a journey through the use of converging and diverging compositions and thus add a sense of three-dimensional depth to his photography. These ideas are expressed in fine prints, themed books and an evolving website.
